Short biography

Portrait of Aisulu N. (Ais)

Ais is an artist born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and now based in Berlin.

She studied fine art in Boston and has lived in France, the United States, and Singapore.

Her paintings explore love, family, trust, and the quiet moments that bring people closer. Using simple figures, strong colours, and imagined spaces, she expresses feelings that are often difficult to put into words.

About my work

I paint feelings and relationships.

The people in my paintings are inspired by my family, my memories, and my imagination, but they are not portraits of specific people. I want viewers to recognise something from their own lives—a feeling of love, trust, closeness, or simply being understood.

I usually begin without knowing what the painting will become. I listen to music, mix colours, and allow the image to appear naturally.

My recent paintings show people resting, holding one another, dreaming, or simply enjoying being together. The beds, blankets, water, fields, and skies around them are part of the emotion. A blanket can become a home, a bed can become a whole world, and the sky can become a place for dreams.

We live in a very busy world, surrounded by screens and information. I hope my paintings encourage people to slow down, feel something, and remember how important it is to love, dream, and be truly present with one another.
